NO NEW ARENA PLANNED FOR DETROIT

The Ilitch family does not plan to build a new arena in Detroit for the Red Wings. Rumors have circulated for some time that the family wants to build an arena on land it owns near the LionsŐ new stadium, now under construction. The land is also adjacent to the TigersŐ new ballpark. The Ilitch family also owns the baseball team. In an interview with a Detroit News columnist, Denise Ilitch said the team will remain at Joe Louis Arena.
